Sunburn & Its Causes.

Sunburn is the reddening, inflammation, and in severe cases, blistering and peeling of the skin caused by overexposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun.

But what really causes the skin to sunburn?

As you perhaps may already know, when your skin is exposed to excess sun light for a long period of time, eventually it burns, turning red and irritated. Under the skin, things get a little more complicated because the sun gives off three wavelengths of ultraviolet light: UVA,UVB,UVC and these 3 are what damages your skin and gives the sunburn. However, use of hash chemicals in cosmetic products can also cause sunburn to the skin.

Words of caution: Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight, avoid exposing your skin, seek shade  when you have been under the sun for too long, cover up with a hat or a pair of sunglasses.

Please stay with me and read till the End.

Acne & Pimples, Its Causes.

Some might wonder and ask - Is there really a difference between acne and pimples? The asnswer is YES. Acne is a disease and pimples are one of its symptoms.

Acne is a condition affecting the skin’s hair follicles and oil glands. Under your skin, your pores are connected to glands that produces an oily substance known as sebum. The glands and pores are connected by a canal known as a follicle that has a thin hair that grows out to the skin’s surface. When sebum and dead skin cells gather together, they form a plug in the follicle. The bacteria found inside the  plug causes inflammation, which then leads to pimples as a symtoms of acne, before it turns into acne itself.

While the exact causes of acne haven’t been identified, reserach has determined that certain things can trigger acne or make it worse, such as:

  • hormonal changes, pubertypregnancy, and the menstrual cycle

  • squeezing or picking at existing pimples

  • cleaning or scrubbing your skin too vigorously

  • cosmetics, such oil-based products, sunscreen, and hair products

  • medications, such as corticosteroids and anabolic steroids

Next we will be looking at the causes of Wrinkles & Aging.

Wrinkles & Aging, Its Causes.

Wrinkles are a natural part and by-product of the aging process. As people get older, their skin becomes thinner, drier, less elastic, and less able to protect itself from damage. These conditions inevitably leads to wrinkles, creases, and lines on the skin.

The skin cells divide gradually, and the middle layer of the skin, known as the dermis, begins to thin down. The dermis is made up of a network of elastin and collagen fibers, which gives support and elasticity to the skin. As these network loosens with time, the skin surface depresses. It becomes less able to retain moisture, less able to  secret oil, and slower to heal or repair damage. All these factors contribute to the development of wrinkles.

Wrinkles can also be  caused by a combination of factors — some controlable, while others are not.

  • Age. As you get older, your skin naturally becomes less elastic and more fragile. Decreased production of natural oils dries your skin and makes it appear more wrinkled. Fat in the deeper layers of your skin diminishes. This causes loose, saggy skin and more-pronounced lines and crevices.

  • Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. Ultraviolet radiation, which speeds the natural aging process, is the primary cause of early wrinkling. Exposure to UV light breaks down your skin's connective tissue — collagen and elastin fibers, which lie in the deeper layer of skin (dermis). Without the supportive connective tissue, your skin loses strength and flexibility. The skin then begins to sag and wrinkle prematurely.

  • Smoking. Smoking can accelerate the normal aging process of your skin, contributing to wrinkles. This may be due to smoking's effect on collagen.
  • Repeated facial expressions. Facial movements and expressions, such as the way you look at somebody or smile. Each time you use a facial muscle, a groove forms beneath the surface of the skin. And as the skin ages, it loses its flexibility and is no longer able to spring back in place. These grooves then become permanent features on your face.

Congratulations! You are just ONE step away!
